You Did It!

Hello friends!

Today's post is not so much about card-making. Instead, I am sharing some easy banner die cutting.
The moment finally came when my daughter passed her PhD thesis defense!

you did it

Like any PhD students, Stephanie worked long and hard for the last 4 years. The PhD degree is made of lots of perseverance, patience, hard work, sweat, tears (!!!), ice cream and "hair loss" (according to Stephanie).

AND I happen to have just received this awesome Alphabet Die from Altenew.

I created a the banner with Simon Says Stamp Stitched Banner Die

I then dressed it up with Pretty Pink Posh Scallop Border Die.

Here is a close-up of Stephanie. According to her, she was feeling/looking really tired in this picture with little sleep from the previous night, 3-hour long defense and...
 finally...she is done!

It has been quite a journey. Stephanie traveled quite a bit for her field work/research in South Africa, Dominican Republic and Uganda. Congratulations, Stephanie, on your PhD degree in Public Health & Health Systems from University of Waterloo! We are immensely proud.

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge #434

Welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Challenge !! Thank you for joining us for the "For a Child" Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too :-)

This week the challenge is...

"Add a Sentiment"

We are using "Impression Obsession" products this week. You don't have to use them to join in but if you have some, we love to see them used :-)

For my project, I am using "Dream In" cling stamp. I decided to create a color swatch with Distress Oxide. It really is easy to do if you line up all the colros that you want.

dream in colors that don't exist

First I did some color-blending and then I let the colors "sit"....meaning that I let the paper dry completely. This is a crucial part especially I wanted to do white-embossing on the paper.

dream in colors that don't exist

After embossing,  I went back and splashed a few tiny drops of water....that's it!
This is a great way to customize your own color palette.
What do you think? Hope you can join this fun challenge!

As always, Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $50 voucher to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store!
So now it's YOUR turn ! Happy Crafting !!
There are fabulous Give Aways and inspiration from fabulous designers on a daily basis over on the Simon Says Stamp Blog . If you haven't subscribed by email, you may want to do so you don't miss out.

You have until Wed. 8am Eastern Time to join in :-)
Do you use Instagram ?  If so please add  #ssswchallenge to your challenge entry uploads so we can see them on there too !
I hope you check out the DT's work!  I can't wait to see what you create!!

Altenew Build-a-Flower Release

Hello friends!
It's the 15th day of the month and that means Altenew's Build-a-Flower feature is here again! For details, please visit Altenew Card Blog and Altenew Scrapbook Blog.

This month's flower is Anemone
About Anemone here
See images here (Pinterest)

I had tons of fun playing with this set and I actually made a few cards.
In the end, I decided to share just two of the cards I made.

For this card, I tied stamping on light card stock from Altenew's Lavender Field.

As you may know already, Altenew's ink are formulated to do color-layering. By using light color card stock, I find that it adds another layer of color!

The stamping with this Anemone set is very straightforward. For extra details, I stamped the solid circle dot (that was meant for the center of the flower) to create a simple background. I then added a bit of sparkle with the Nuvo Droplets (Silver Moondust).

My 2nd card involves stamping, dry-embossing (with the matching die) and ink-blending.

The result is striking and the colors really pop. Like the first card, I also stamped the sold circle stamp to create a subtle border. This is a great way to use those tiny stamps!

With a bit of planning ahead, this card really took little time to create.

Customized Wedding Party Cards

Hello friends!

I am happy to share some fun projects with you.
This summer, I was asked to create some wedding party cards.
These customized cards will be given by the bride and groom to their potential Maid of Honour,  bridesmaids, best man...
Needless to say it was a bit of a challenge for me.
First, I had to come up with a good design with the special sentiment that were conceptualized by the bride and groom.  I am sharing a few examples today and you can see what I mean.
Example #1
(inside the card reads "photographer"?)
PS: this card is meant for my daughter Stephanie who will be asked to be the wedding photographer !
Example #2
will you be my ...

I love using pattern paper with vellum (shop here).

Example #3
(inside: blank)
Help me
I am not sure what the bride and groom have in mind for this "help me" sentiment...perhaps..."Celebrate"?

From my examples, you can see that you can customize the kit to suit your needs.

These three cards were made with the Altenew New Day Card Kit.
The sentiment were stamped with Avery Elle's Elle's Alphas.

So it happens that Altenew has a special promotion going on till Aug. 17th.

Let's get right to STENCILS!

Grid Stencil (Altenew, Simon Says Stamp)

Cube Builder Stencil (Altenew, Simon Says Stamp)

Since this is the LAST of this series, I thought it would be most appropriate to share a card that I created with stenciled scraps.
just for you

Yes, I used a watercolor piece with Cube Builder and a spray-stenciled piece with Grid Stencil.
When I got these scraps, I didn't know what to do with them. So, I challenge myself and this is what I came up with.

In order to make the design look SEAMLESS, I thought it is a good idea to stitch the two pieces up.
And that is exactly what I did.

just for you (2)

To make the card more interesting, I stamped the floral image with Best Bud.

Best Bud (Altenew, Simon Says Stamp)

just for you (4)

I also added a piece of gold glitter Washi Tape from Altenew New Day Card Kit (shop Altenew, Simon Says Stamp, a piece of pattern card stock and sequins.

just for you (3)

Blooming Bouquet (Take 2)!

Hello friends!
I am in the mood to blog today... this is my 2nd post.
For the masculine one layer, please scroll down or click here.
It has been a while since I played with Alcohol Inks ...
it is one of my favorite mediums to add colors to my design.
Also, for a card-maker without patience like me, Alcohol Inks always gives me the instant gratification.
You add colors...BAM!! It's done.

Today's card is just that.
A little heat-embossing on vellum and a little alcohol inking
(Alcohol Inks from Ranger are now 25% off, details at the end of the post)
  and you will get this.
thank you-002

Shop Simon Says Stamp here

I love almost all the Alcohol Inks and would love to recommend all of them.
However, you will have to pick the colors that you like/speak to you.

For me, these are the MUST supplies to use with Alcohol Inks: Adirondack Alcohol Ink CS, Alcohol Ink Applicator Felt Refills, vellum and Alcohol Ink Blending Solution

thank you

The Embossing Powder I used is from Altenew's Golden Peach EP (shop Simon Says Stamp here, shop Altenew here).

Thank you-001

Hope you like this vibrant version. You can see my first take with the same stamp here.

This is the time to get those Ranger Alcohol Inks if you have not got any.

One Layer Masculine Card

Hello friends!
Here is a little infomercial for ya....
"Do you struggle with making masculine cards?
You need a birthday card .... like pronto!?
AND you need to mail it ASAP?
Well, look no more!
This masculine card is the answer!"
(insert a cheeky smile--> 😁)

Poetic (Penny Black) comes to the rescue!
( I apologize that this stamp is currently out of stock over SSS.)
HERE are the latest release from Penny Black! Do you have a favorite already?

This is one of the many that I adore...

have a fabulous birthday

I like to do multi-color stamping with MISTI. Starting with the lighter colors seem to be the key for me. I like to add shade of darker colors once I am happy with the initial inking. While the Distress Oxide was still wet, clear-embossing worked really well in this card, too.

have a fabulous birthday

I also stamped the background with the awesome "Script" Cling stamp. This stamp is a great arsenal to add extra interest to your stamped design.  Happy to report that I created within half an hour.
So, there's your masculine one layer birthday card.

 Use code RGR4493
This is a great chance to get the Distress Oxide if you have not already (click here).

Thanks for stopping by!
PS: The party of 40 (in celebration of my daughter's successful PhD defense) went so well that I think I might do it again...perhaps not for a while though.
