I Don't Do Cute!

 I don't do cute....cute cards, that is.
If you follow my blog, you rarely see cute images with lots of coloring. Well, since it's the New Year, I though it would be good to challenge myself to do something NEW and completely "different".
So this is it.

I Heart You (Penny Black)
http://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product.aspx?id=315313
My take on the bike image
033
The images are colored with copic markers and watercolors. The Thank You Heart Craft Die is from Simon Says Stamp. You might wonder why I came up with the idea for a heart shape die...Well, it's because I am a genius that way  I was horrible at coloring the faces! The angelic-looking faces turned out blotchy due to my lack of/poor watercolor choices. Their faces are still not great, but they are MUCH better than the original :) I also embossed the edges with gold embossing powder.

My 2nd card was created with color pencils with Gemsol. I think the coloring is passable.
I heart you
I kept the coloring light and added patterned paper to accentuate the fun and cheery colors.
My 3rd card was made with paper-piecing
Smile
Yup, everything was paper pierced except the face, hair, hands and the big/tiny hearts.
Stamps: I Heart You Heartfelt Die from Penny Black, DIY Boutique, DCWV, Peerless Water color, Spectrum Noir Color pencils (Primaries and Floral) .

I admit that I struggle with coloring. But with practice, coloring may not be as intimidating after all. Still, it was fun to play with cute images once in a while; perhaps I will do more cute cards from now on (wink).
Thanks for stopping by!

Well for not "doing" cute, you sure made some cute cards. I had to laugh at the heart panel story- some of my favorite design elements come from "mistakes".

Super cute cards, Virginia! I am impressed with your coloring - I like colored pencils best for coloring. Faces are hard to do, for sure!!

I'm the same, Virginia. I avoid stamp images that require a lot of colouring as I definitely need to practise this more LOL. Kudos to you for challenging yourself - you did an amazing job on these cards!

Who said you don't do cute. These are adorable. I think your coloring is fine. I struggle with it all the time. Yours is so much better than mine. Anyway, these are really sweet Valentine's. Cheerful and upbeat. Kind of like you.

Very cute cards.

I think you did "cute" quite nicely! Coloring was not my thing either, but trying different mediums helps! Have you tried Tombow markers with the blender pen or even a waterpen? Found that to be the easiest to shade and color things with!

As much as you might say that you DON'T do cute - the evidence in this post is stacked against you!! Your creations are beautifully colored - they each have a touch of whimsy and adorableness that not just anybody can pull off. I think the verdict is in - YOU DO CUTE and you do it awesomely well - maybe its' because you are SO CUTE!!!! Have a fantastic week!!!
